Syd Koster Hotel
Stay on the car free Koster islands at the Sydkoster Hotel Ekenäs. Park your car in, or catch the train to Strömstad and take the passenger ferry to Sweden's most westerly populated islands, terminating just 100m from this coastal hotel. Attractions include a unique seaside location, beaches, rocky islands and of course the magic “Koster light”, which has inspired many artists on the island. Renting a bike and a guided tour are strongly recommended so you can appreciate all that is surrounding you. In 2009 the Koster Archipelago National Park will be inaugurated and the Koster islands will be preserved as a spectacular marine nature reserve.
Lysekil Havshotell (Sea Hotel)
This charming hotel from the turn of the century is located on the sea front in Lysekil. King Oscar II was once a regular visitor and had his own suite! 15 individually decorated rooms are in the main building and 2 outstanding suites are located on the rocks by the sea. The hotel is located at the mouth of one of Sweden's deepest fjörds, Gullmarsfjörden, with a depth of around 120meters and is just 110km (65miles) from Gothenburg. When staying here we recommend you ask for either the Havsatelijen or the Badpaviljong, located on the rocks by the sea. Access to these suites is by a steep rocky staircase, just 50m from the main building.
The Weather Islands
Sweden's most westerly islands are rugged, raw and incredibly beautiful. Unprotected from natures' elements this collection of islands lie some 10 nautical miles from the mainland. During the 18th and 19th centuries the need for greater safety at sea meant these inhospitable islands became home to an extended lighthouse and pilot service. In 1965 the lighthouse was fully automated and the pilots returned to the main land. Today there is an excellent restaurant complemented by a comfortable guest house. There are no TVs in the bedrooms (just look out of the window!) and the showers & toilets are in the corridor. All rooms have a sea view. The only way to reach the islands is by a special boat service. Purchased in Northern Ireland the boats were brought back to Sweden across the North Sea. A sure sign that no matter what the weather you will always be able to reach the barren, rugged, dramatic Weather Islands. You will depart for the Weather Islands at 1pm. The journey takes approx. 20mins. You will be welcomed with a sandwich and warm drink and you will have time to to explore this stunning location. A walk to the old pilots station is recommended. An excellent 3 course evening meal (based around sea food) is served in the renowned restaurant. If you would prefer to spend just a few hours on the Weather Islands then we recommend Storahotellet in Fjällbacka.
Villa Sjötorp
Villa Sjötorp has just just ten charming traditional and individually decorated rooms with excellent personal service. During the long summer days, meals are served in the garden or on the terrace offering breathtaking views across an outstanding archipelago. A path leads down to a small beach and at the centre of the garden is a large tree from which hangs a swing that even the most grown up among you will not be able resist sitting on and soaking up the atmosphere.

Unsurprisingly many activities are water based, with plenty of boat trips. During the summer there are regular services to the island of Hållö and to Kungshamn, the main town. On Smögen you will find excellent restaurants (we recommend Smögen Sea Lodge) and shops along the quayside. Sealing watching, kayaking and sailing are all on offer in the local area.
Smögen Havsbad (Sea Bath)
Welcome to Smögen, along with Marstrand, one of the most popular summer destinations in West Sweden and is a hive of activity during the summer months. Smögen Havsbad (Sea Bath) opened in 1900 and has been carefully renovated over the years and now features a spectacular extension carved into the rocks, with a relaxing SPA and swimming pool.Unsurprisingly many activities are water based, with plenty of boat trips.
