Treehotel information
Welcome to Treehotel
An all year round experience, living close to nature in a place of great natural beauty. Treehotel is where joyful childhood memories can now be relived in a more comfortable and sophisticated environment. Treehotel opened in July 2010 and is located in the forests of Swedish Lapland, just 1hr from Luleå airport.
Treehotel has been constructed in The Boreal Forest, deep in Swedish Lapland, with stunning views over the Luleå River valley. The Boreal Forest is one of Earth's lungs and it is our responsibility to look after it. By building Treehotel, the forest can be appreciated for its nature, beauty and hospitality and protected from industrial purposes.
Open all year round with long warm summer days and 24hr daylight, to cold magical white winters, Treehotel and Lapland is worth a visit at any time, complemented by a comprehensive program of activities and excursions.
Treehotel Inspiration
Treehotel has been inspired by the documentary film, Trädälskaren (The Treelover) by Johan Selberg Augustsen. A story of 3 men from a big city environment who make a philosophical film about what the tree means to humans, historically and culturally. The tree house they build is in Harads, the same village as Treehotel, and it is possible to stay in their tree house upon request.
Treehotel rooms
Each room has been designed by a leading Swedish architect. All the rooms at Treehotel have electrical under floor heating. The electricity is from environmentally friendly sources, for example hydroelectric. You won't find any TV's at Treehotel, that defeats the whole object of the visit! Treehotel is all about the nature, silence and beauty of Swedish forests.
Rooms that are open to guests
The Cabin: Designed by Cyrén & Cyrén
A double room with amazing views of the Luleå River across the tree canopy. Supported by 4 pine trees in each corner, the entrance to The cabin is by footbridge to a large terrace on top of The Cabin.
Mirrorcube: Designed by Tham & Videgård
An optical illusion created by a mirrored cube plays tricks on the mind is it appears suspended in mid-air. Held in place by a single pine tree running through the middle. A double room with a small roof terrace accessible by ladder.
Bird's Nest: Designed by Bertil Harström
A large room with 1 double bed and 2 single beds for children. Designed to blend in with other nests in the Boreal Forest, the only difference being the size! Discreet windows are hidden behind the branches. Access by retractable ladder.
Blue Cone: Designed by Sandell Sandberg
Simple wood construction with birch facade. A double bed on the entrance floor and 2 single beds in the loft. Supported by 3 pine trees The Blue Cone is actually orange. Living in a tree should not be complicated. Wheelchair accessible.
UFO: Designed by Bertil Harström
A little boys dream come true ... climb aboard a UFO and fly away amongst the tree tops. Inspiration came whilst designing the Bird's Nest - to build something to the contrary. A double bed and 2 children's beds.
Why visit now?
Treehotel will only be built once! It is not your average building site with no heavy machinery or continuous drilling you're more likely to find around the Mediterranean. This is a wonderful experience at the pinnacle of innovative design and construction, deep in the forests of Swedish Lapland. This is brand new for 2010 and we want you to help us design and improve our holidays to Treehotel. Be part of the future and make a difference.
